Gerund And Infinitive Meaning Lesson (With Worksheet)

The Meaning Of The Gerund And Infinitive

The Meaning Of The Gerund And Infinitive B2 – FCE

Understanding the differences in meaning between the gerund and infinitive in phrases is a challenge for many students.

While some verbs change the meaning completely, others remain more or less the same.

But knowing which ones change and which ones take on a new sense is not governed by any strict rules.

This activity focuses on phrases such as “she stopped having lunch” and “she stopped to have lunch.”

With the worksheet, students look at pairs of short sentences and need to decide if there is a significant difference in meaning.

Or, if the meaning is more or less the same for both phrases.

Also included is a worksheet to learn which common verbs are followed by the infinitive or the gerund.
